Chinese New Year Celebrations

We recognise that Chinese New Year is an important holiday for our students from China and Hong Kong. Chinese New Year fell on the February half term this year, when a lot of students were enjoying time with their host families, and many of our students joined Pippa’s half term camp at Rugby School.

Here are a few photos of students and host families celebrating Chinese New Year.

Tim, year 7 student at St Andrew’s Prep Eastbourne, stayed with one of our wonderful new host families – Colin & Mary – for February Half Term. They made Chinese lanterns to decorate the dining room for Chinese New Year celebrations. They joined a FaceTime group to wish Tim’s family a happy new year, and ordered some delicious Chinese food from a local restaurant to celebrate with Tim, which they all thoroughly enjoyed. They also enjoyed indoor fireworks and party poppers.

Throughout the week at Pippa’s half term camp students celebrated Chinese New Year, starting with a Chinese feast and watching the new year gala on their very first evening. They also enjoyed Chinese firecrackers and fireworks, Chinese art classes, cookery classes – making traditional Chinese dumplings, Mahjong and exchanging red envelopes, a new year’s tradition where children are gifted envelopes with money inside.

We would like to wish everyone and happy, healthy and prosperous year of the Dragon!
