Shrewsbury School social
Pippa’s Guardians’ Area Managers Gilly Hartley and Courtenay Forde-Johnston recently hosted a party at Shrewsbury School for the students at the school who are under our guardianship. There was a fantastic turnout in the end, with 33 students coming along, and Pippa’s MD Ben was also there to join in the fun.
This is what Courtenay had to say about the fun that was had…
“Gilly worked hard putting together a fantastic fun evening for the start of the summer term! It was a night filled with laughter, delicious food, and a chance to connect with the students outside the classroom.
Gilly kicked things off with a warm welcome and introduced, Ben who many students had not met. After that, we dived into some fun, fast-paced games. First, the “Wrapping challenge”. Students worked in teams, armed with rolls of wrapping paper and a competitive spirit, to transform one member into a hilarious human parcel. The creativity (and questionable wrapping techniques) were on full display!

Next, we upped the ante with the “Sock Showdown!” This seemingly simple task of matching sock pairs turned into a fierce girls-vs-boys battle. The competitive energy was high, but the laughter was even louder!

Following the sock-fueled frenzy, we indulged in a delicious Chinese buffet from a local Shrewsbury restaurant. Both the students and the staff couldn’t resist going back for seconds (and, in some cases, thirds). It was a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for chatting and getting to know the students in a more informal setting. They were visibly more at ease and happy to chat – a refreshing change from our usual face to face school visits.

The night was originally planned to end at 7 pm, but the students were have such a good time they didn’t want to leave we finally wrapped up around 8 pm with a big thank you to Ben, and a round of appreciation from the students for us.

Overall, this event was a fantastic success! It was a wonderful opportunity to see all our students in a different light. We sent out lots of photos to parents, who absolutely loved seeing their kids having fun with friends. On top of that, the feedback from everyone has been overwhelmingly positive.”

Senior Admissions Tutor Giles Bell was also there. He said: “Thank you for a great night in Quod. The kids really enjoyed themselves and I thought it was a fantastic night. Your games were great!”
Ben added: “This was a brilliant event – so much fun. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, as did our students, who I loved meeting. It was fantastic to see the affection the students hold for Gilly and Courtenay – they are very much appreciated to say the least. Really well done, thank you.”
Student feedback: “It was great – it felt like it was a family, and made everyone feel like they were a part of something, especially those who are not in any particular groups.”
